Robbed in Barcelona

Before I departed for Barcelona, I have two people telling me consecutively that their friends have been robbed in Spain while during. It was really unnerving, considering that my own uncle told me the same thing when I arrived in England.

It got even more unnerving when I saw this yesterday when I was walking the town.

need help backpacker

  2. There are many high class pick pocket, beware as you travel..., Italian now also popular with Snatch thieves. Time are bad in Europe. Jobless people just rob and pick pocket to survive.

  6. This is not only happening in Barcelona but back home here in Malaysia as well. Perhaps, they are not so demonstrative as this unfortunate soul to go abegging in the streets.Anyway, you take care. Avoid late hours and go out in numbers.

  9. If they really need help, they would've gone to the police, and then contact their embassies.

  11. For me, it looks real... I would rather give some money to him but not in large sum.

Even it is a scam, at least we do something helpful and it's a good deed to us. If you are in his position in someday, you will need other people to help you too.

    This is called karma...

  13. I went to Barcelona this summer and four guys approached me in the metro and tried to pickpocket me.

Be very careful while you are there.

  14. Oh gosh, I almost got pickpocketed in Barcelona too! (or at least, I think...) I had a metal badge dangling from my backpack zipper and I was in the metro when I heard the sound of it tinkling. I turned around and saw the zip slightly open. There were some people behind me and I kinda think it was them! Lucky for me, I guess...

  15. Becareful,

Spain is famous for its pick pockets too !! There was once my tour leader was picked . He was just warning us that to be careful with our possesions a few minutes ago, and few minutes later, he realized that his wallet was gone !

  19. I got the same experience in Barcelona too. Came off the bus and a guy and gal came over to me with the intention of asking for money. Then without me knowing my wallet is on the ground. I think they tried pickpocketing me but failed and the wallet fell to the ground. Lucky me.

Anyway, it's the same all over the world. Just be careful when you are traveling.

  20. These things happens. And I pity the poor soul who had to beg like that. i'd say be street smart and if you're still paranoid, put a lock on your bag and just some small cash in your pockets.
