Come Clean: My Only Friend
When I was in primary school, as everyone who reads my blog since a year ago would know, I wasn’t exactly the prettiest or brightest kids in class, nor in school. I wasn’t lying when I said I was a geek.
But there was one thing I didn’t really specify clearly though. I wasn’t the only one.
It was in Standard 5 and 6 that I found another geek I could relate to.
No one would talk to us because not only we were last in class, we were two of the tallest girls and we were, should I say, UGLY. (sorry Rebecca, but we WERE very geeky looking)
We kind of bonded in a way, forming our little geek unpopular group and we would hang out together in a small gathering at the far corner of the class where no one would disturb or verbally abuse us.
This is a little conversation we were having as I am writing this.
Rebecca said:
but i remember we used to eat A1 chicken sausages together during lunch
Rebecca said:
ahahaha
Rebecca said:
u belanja me sausages during lunch and i liked it so i asked my mum to buy ahaha
Nicole said:
those were the old times
Rebecca says:
actually i think its good to be geeks when we were young
Rebecca says:
u know why? coz u went through the worse, u know how it feels to be picked on etc........ur more sensitive that way
Nicole says:
yea.. i know!
Nicole says:
dun mind if i use the word UGLY to describe us k?
Rebecca says:
no
Rebecca says:
i dont mind at all, i think i was lol
Rebecca says:
compared to someone who gets compliments so much since young, they never went through what we went through, so they will never understand how it feel like.......hence grow up insensitive
Nicole says:
hey darling. can i use this conversation?
What I am about to show you, is something I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER reveal to anyone before. And I don’t know why I am doing this because no AMOUNT OF MONEY can get me to reveal this. But heck, because of you PINKY, and you TIMOTHY! I am going to do it! SO YOU GUYS WILL FINALLY BELIEVE ME!
If you have just eaten, I suggest you switch off the pc now and don’t look back! You have been warned!
This is me in primary school.
…..
….
..
.
OMFG!!!!
SO UGLY WTFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!
I told you I was geeky! You wouldn’t believe!
Rebecca and me would group together, like two little rats in their rat holes every day during lunch and break time, just to keep each other company. I remember how we had such low self esteem, no confidence, and very unpopular with the teachers and classmates.
Nicole said:
what were the tease u used to get from our classmates?
Rebecca says:
not from classmates.........but i felt left out, remember XX etc?
Rebecca says:
they were the "hot" girls
Rebecca says:
they stuck together and we were left out
Nicole says:
o.. yes.. who was XX best friends huh?
Nicole says:
YY right?
Nicole says:
i hated her
Rebecca says:
yeah me too
Rebecca says:
she was arrogant
Rebecca says:
and they never used to talk to us.......
Rebecca says:
stick with their own and never invited us to any parties or whatever
Nicole says:
she once told me in primary school in standard three that if i don’t give up my rubber to her twin brother, she would ask the entire class not to come to my birthday party and not be friends with me
Rebecca says:
Really?
Rebecca says:
i never got that from her, coz i dont talk to her.....
Rebecca says:
they were arrogant coz they were popular
Yea I hated YY. Till today! And her evil twin brother.
Years gone by, and guess what?! We turned out fine, no! we turned out great!
This was Rebecca when she was young.
And this is her now.
She enjoys travelling as much as me and recently just flew to Dubai to become a stewardess so she can travel more!
She has flown to more than 10 countries so far, from France, Germany, France, UK, India, Pakistan, Sri lanka, Kenya, Bahrain, Australia, Thailand, China, Saudi Arabia and even to Maldives soon!
Damn it girl, can you slow down a bit so I can catch up with you!
Btw, she’s single. But not for long!
And as for me.
I changed from this,
To this.
Bahaha, this is just to minimize the ugly image you have in mind from the previous photo.
We turned out brilliantly in the end, despite our dreadful (geeky) past.
Phew! It feels good to finally come clean. Well, kinda. Now that no one can blackmail me with my past photos. Muahaha! Because I exposed it myself, damn it.
So this is our secret and my Come Clean story. What’s yours?
No no, don’t tell me yet. Keep it and share it in my upcoming entry on Oct 13 where there’s going to be a contest and stand a chance to win yourself a trip to Bali!
42 kissed Nicole
LOL! the way you present your old photos - you girls look like a bunch of criminals.

ReplyDeleteOne word, UNBELIEVABLE!
ReplyDeletei look like ur friend rebecca when i was in primaty skool too! well, my glasses are not that big la .. but still .. maybe i should make a comparison too ..
ReplyDeleteIts down memory lane girl. Good to recall and see the changes in you.
ReplyDeletei dont think u were ugly as a kid, coz u still look the same in all the pics without makeup. the only diff is your hair color and you lost that really atrocious looking bangs. and you actually never changed much which is interesting. no you're not ugly. you're an average looking young lady and that's not a bad thing at all.
ReplyDeletehonestly you were NOT ugly in primary. really. I was ugly. really ugly. you were okay. Like, not very cute or anything, but still, not ugly at all. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I am sure there was a lot of "fine-tuning" involved before posting your pic on FHM :)
ReplyDeleteEven "ugly" chics probably end up looking pretty decent if they are professionally made up and have the right attire before getting their pics taken by a pro. And then you have the pic go through another "fine-tuning" process before they are published.
Nevertheless, you are still a good looking girl.
so many of my frens also were not that appealing when they were kids. ironically, it was this bunch of less appealing kids who turned out to be hotter and sexier than the ones that have always been more pleasant looking.
ReplyDeleteovercome your insecurities......and you're half way there.
cheers!!!
An ugly duckling story I can relate to. Look how far you've come! Best wishes to you.
ReplyDeletebuahahah reli match the phase ugly duck turn to beauty swam ^ ^
ReplyDeleteBoth of you are so pretty.
ReplyDelete/wistful sigh
ohhh my gosh... wat a difference...
ReplyDeleteohhh la la...
Nice memories. Nicole, you're from melaka right?
ReplyDeleteI'm still the ugly kid i used 2b! hahahaha But as u get older, u start being kinder on yourself & become more comfortable in your own skin. It's not really an option! LOL!

ReplyDeleteHey Nicole,
ReplyDeleteNice write up you have..but it reminds me so much of the same post wrote by XiaXue's on exposing her ugly photos from her school days.
-Milly
Probably most of us women will have some "ugly" childhood pics.
ReplyDeleteBut obviously we are getting better at presenting ourselves to look more attractive as we grew older. And nic, I think being "ugly" for a primary/secondary schooler is probably a good thing. It saved you a lot of trouble and help you to be more focus on your study. Not saying that your hot ex-school mate are no brainer but not many kids can handle much opposite sex attention by such a young age.
The most important thing is, look at you now... you had a drop dead figure and pretty face!
wow! hot! sure no plastic surgery? i oso admire one lf who chg like u :)
ReplyDeletehey nicole...
ReplyDeletei think everybody thinks that they looks ugly in primary time including me heheee...but rebecca is cute la in primary, her face looks like my youngest sis.
hey hey~ i'm Giovanni's (Pay Fong schoolmate, rite?) sister~ he intro me ur webpage~ ^_^
ReplyDeletethought juz to drop by and say hi~ but after reading ur blog abt u were left out, it kinda brings back my memories of me being left out by some smart and fair girls in class too coz i'm not a pure chinese and also becoz of my skin colour =P
but now, we should be proud of ourselves becoz we are different from them and special~ ^_^
in the past, ppl like u. today ppl like ur beauty.
ReplyDeletewow..girls really do change !!
ReplyDeleteno wonder they say sometimes better to go for ugly girl(as it is easier..hehe) in the secondary then u might get better result in the end...
estee lauder did a great job
ReplyDeleteAnother fine example of how an 'ugly duckling' turned into a beauties !!! Finally i believe in the folks stories !!!
ReplyDeleteBTw you look chubby huh when u were small ???
HI Nicole,
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, while I am reading your post. It reminds me when I was young especially with a big glasses!
Oh by the way, you have the BEST set of FHM photos I have ever seen from anyone. Seriously. You look like you were born to take photos for FHM leh ... (in a good way la haha)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you that long ago! Or did I say that in Facebook? O_O I can't remember.
Oh my true intention was to say thanks!!! I saw the article today already!!! :D
But one thing I NEVER KNEW THE QUESTIONAIRE WAS FOR DIRECT ANSWER. I thought you just needed info! Shit! I would have given much more interesting answers la!!!! Sorry you had to write about someone so boring. =(
Don't worry about being left out. moral of nicole's story is that we first have to love ourself before being loved by others. But from the photos, nicole didn't change much, just the skin is much fairer now. But her friend Rebecca is a totally different now especially with her specs off.
ReplyDeleteNicole nicole... hahaha mmm thats good that you came clean and what you and rebecca had talked about it so true.. its always the geeks that ends up better in the future.. haha I used to get bullied alot back in high school too.. lost of old painful memories that I hated.. anyways how are you la? haven't spoken to you in ages =)
ReplyDeleteNicole, I don't think you were ugly at all. Just not smiling on the picture, because you were not so happy in those days.
ReplyDeletehaha i was far more ugly. but luckily wasn't discriminated as i have some small lil popularity among friends, probably i m humourous, & was a class monitor. i stood in between the line of the popular & not-so-popular, cuz i was ugly, but i was friendly. basically gets to mix with all types. good for me :p moral of the story, don't feel left out just because of how you look. there's always a balance your strengths & weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteYou surely helped lift the spirits of the geeky students everywhere. You can outlive the geekiness without having to stoop to the level of the 'popular ones'.
ReplyDeleteCheers to that.
Human changes!!!! Only you can change your>>>
ReplyDeleteno wonder, when i reached adulthood, lots of pretty girls popping out of nowhere. they just mutated from the ugly ducklings (°_°")
ReplyDeletei think rebecca's pretty cute back then ah!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a brave act to show our childhood ugly (allow me to use this) photos. I dun even keep a single one with me now!
ReplyDeleteu and rebecca really had big change since primary school, it just like watching "pimp my ride" on Channel V.
ReplyDeleteu alreay look sexy when u were in primary..esp ur eyes and lips :)
ReplyDeleteu looks like 'cina bukit' when u were kids ..
ReplyDeletehaha you look cute as a kid but you turn out pretty in the end ;)
