P.S. Cafe @ Singapore

PS Cafe singapore

One of the first love for truffle shoe-string fries struck during my very first visit to P.S. Cafe at Dempsey Hill Singapore. It also launched my love for french fries in general, which till date I’m pretty sure it’s a bad thing. But oh it tastes so good.

I have since visited the place several times, with new friends and old friends and always order the same thing. And miraculously it was always drizzling whenever I was there. Which adds to the atmosphere since it’s half enclosed by trees. It’s romantic albeit a bit hot and humid on non-rainy days to be seated outside, regardless of the weather, count yourself blessed if you can secure a spot outdoor. Rain or not, it is rather romantic to be having your brunch, coffee or a cake here.

Oasia Hotel Singapore

It was a weekend with the girls to Singapore and we had the privilege to stay in a Club Room in Oasia Hotel Singapore.

Location wise it was one of the most strategic placed mid-range hotel available in Singapore. Connected to a MRT station underground, the hotel is only but a few stops away from Orchard road (central location).

At SGD200+ per night, it offered rather comfortable beds and shower and had a nice spread of breakfast, if you were to choose to stay at their Club Room, you get to dine in their club lounge located on a high floor during the buffet breakfast, away from the massive crowd on the ground floor. On top of which you get light refreshments during the evening hour between 6-8pm that offered unlimited cocktails, beer and good choice of house pours (red and white). Which, alone, I thought was worth to upgrade to a Club Room. Along with other benefits of Club Room which were late check-outs and free bus tour around Singapore, etc.

Angelina Tearoom in Hong Kong

I was passing through Hong Kong for a day from Macau to catch up with a few friends before heading into China on a quick work trip. One of the friends was an old friend from uni days whom I have not met for 10 years, I felt bad for not able to make it to his wedding in Hong Kong few years ago as I was travelling that I felt compelled to catch up with him.

He arranged an afternoon tea at this cafe called Angelina, and boy, was I in for a treat!

The 110 year-old French legacy is a franchise french dessert cafe from Paris and widely popular in Hong Kong as well as New Year City.

It has been years since I had a good Mont Blanc (a round dessert topped with thick drizzle layers of fresh pureed chestnut cream, inside you'll find fresh loaded cream and sometimes a thin base of cake, I swear to you it's the best dessert, ever!). Malaysia doesn't really have ANY good mont blanc dessert, most use heavy alcohol to preserve the cream or they use cheap substitutes for the chestnut cream.

And Angelina's Mont Blanc was De Li Cious. Which was, of course, what they were famous for. Not just that, they served a MEAN cup of hot cocoa. In fact, almost every dessert in the shop looked and tasted like cloud and mushy unicorm love. There are no words to properly describe it.

It's located at IFC mall in Hong Kong, and like a true classy French establishment, it comes with a fabulous view of the Hong Kong harborfront view.

African Chocolate - another of their classic dessert, very very rich chocolate

I, my friend, and his wife. Thanks for the treat! And it was nice to finally catch up!

There's a cafe in Singapore which is closer than Hong Kong. Time for a visit on my next trip to do a comparison.

White Elephant by British India

Here's a chance to accumulate karma points for the new year.
Giving a shout out to a CSR project launched by British India called White Elephant.

It's a charity driven shop in Publika where all the clothes were donated by mostly British India and 100% of the proceeds go to charity. They're also constantly looking for volunteers to look after the shop. Like most salvation shops, you can find some pretty good finds if you look hard enough, and nothing in the shop exceeds RM50, and at the time of writing, each piece of clothing is brand new and unwashed. So sometimes a typical old piece can spot yellow stains from long term storage.

I bought this oversized men's jacket for less than RM40. It's my go-to comfort smart-casual wear. Just fold out the sleeves and pair it with t-shirt and jeans/shorts. It's since worn it 3 times.

I love their handmade scented candles at RM10 each.

Welcoming 2015: Siloso Beach Party Singapore

Here's to another year of new year resolutions and leaving the baggages behind in 2014.

If I could sum up the year 2014 in one word, it will be: BUSY.

The year passed so quick and so hectic I didn't have time to travel (work trips didn't count), to socialise, to have fun. It was the busiest year I ever had, and 2015 will just be as packed. Running your own business tend to be like that, I guess.

Last year my new year resolution was to be happy. It was perhaps the simplest resolution and also the hardest to achieve. Instead I got "busy". Which was good in a way because it gave me a sense of purpose in what I do, and you can't feel depress when you have a sense of purpose. So I suppose that sort of work in my favor? lol.

This year 2015 I also have but one simple resolution. To eat healthier.
Again, a tough one to achieve. But also quite easy if you put your mind to it.

This includes:
No red meat
No junk food
No fast food
No fried food
Less dessert
More clean food
More water
More fruits
More vege
More bird nest (this I look forward to most hehe)
More collagen and antioxidant drink/food

Yup. Will start investing more in putting good food into my body.

And hopefully I'll have time to incorporate a regular exercise regime into my schedule. No rush though, one step at a time, one big change each year.

Since I have been so busy the entire 2014, I decided to welcome 2015 by driving into Singapore for a quick year end celebration at the Siloso Beach Party. Which in all honesty, I was going there for the fireworks only. Since I got tired of the fireworks in KL the past few years.

It was a huge area and lots of DJs. The foam pool was fun but the clean freak in me prevented me for going all out in the foam. Despite the party vibe that was obviously present, the beach party was set on sentosa beach, which was completely sealed off for the party; meaning it was technically a sand party. The barrier was so high you couldn't even see the sea. One would also have to buy a min of sgd50 of voucher if you want to buy food or drinks, which I could see a lot of Singaporeans didn't mind paying, but was proving expensive for me since I don't really drink; and sdg50 is a lot to spend on a 5 dollar nachos.

I also found out that I'm getting older. What with all the young music that I couldn't connect with: lyrics that consisted of 90% repeated words of "shot" and "fuck"; or repeated phrase of "I don't care", "I love it".

Sigh. Time to retire from all these partying.

My only bottle of beer for the night, which I didn't even finish. Time has changed.

My sdg5 waterproof handphone pouch just in case.

testing out foam. Yep, that's foam flying into the night sky

witnessed a proposal at midnight. Such a nice notion, think about it, to have a public holiday falls on every anniversary that follows.
